Aurora/Northern Lights Tour – Selective Offerings

Price: *See pricing tab

Duration: 1.0-3.0+hrs

Min Group Size: Please ask or Private available for additional price

If the conditions are right, this tour will provide you with the shock and awe of mother nature’s beautiful Aurora dancing throughout the night sky.

For this tour, we will take you outside of city limits to get away from any/all light pollution to better our chances of witnessing the lights. A warm cozy fire to enjoy and keep warm, chairs, blankets, a warm van and cabin (depends where we go) with warm beverages as we wait.

*As mother nature can be quite unpredictable, we cannot guarantee the Aurora/Northern Lights will show on the night of your tour due to various factors. For more information please see Our Policies Section

*For our detailed friends, please feel free to contact us and we’d be happy to share our in-depth tour summary.

Besides the holiday Aurora visitors, we recognize people may be here on business as well. We offer a pro-rate pay program because we know you have to get up early for your meetings or other business.

Also, if we see the aurora is starting early, we may adjust times for better success.

Will I see the lights?
Mother Nature and our night sky cannot always guarantee when they come out. With no cloud, no full bright moon we do have a better chance. The lights don’t work by our schedule and may show up for 5mins, 2hrs, or not at all.

What months are best?
Middle of September and March are lovely because it is typically warmer out to enjoy other activities besides the night sky. Also there is less cloud typically as it is not our snowfall time. We have more snow and darkness December – February.

What are the most common colors we might see?
Green and white are the most common, in rare special cases you might be lucky to see purple and red as well.

What causes the colors?
The colours of the aurora are determined by the composition of gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, the altitude at which the aurora occurs, the density of the atmosphere, and the level of energy involved. Green, the most common colour seen from the ground, is produced when charged particles collide with oxygen at lower altitudes (around 100-300 km). Occasionally, the lower edge of an aurora will have a pink or crimson fringe, which is produced by nitrogen molecules (around 100 km). Higher in the atmosphere (300-400 km), collisions with atomic oxygen produce red instead of green. Since the atmosphere is less dense at higher altitudes, it takes more energy and more time to produce red light (up to two minutes), whereas green light can be made quickly at lower altitudes (about one second). Hydrogen and helium can also produce blue and purple, but those colours tend to be difficult for our eyes to see against the night sky.” -Canadian Space Agency

Can we stay out longer?
If the group agrees and the lights are awesome, we can usually stay out longer to enjoy.
