This tour is a fantastic, full-day tour, exploring the Southern Lakes region as well as the village of Teslin, all while travelling back to Whitehorse on the historic Alaska Highway!

Along the way you will get to experience stunning mountain vistas, a stop at the famous Emerald Lake, a stop in the Village of Carcross and Bennett Lake. We will then drive through the Tagish Lake area which is part of the headwaters of the majestic Yukon River. We will then journey south on the Alaska Highway to Teslin where we will visit the incredible Teslin Tlingit Heritage Centre. Here you will learn about the rich heritage and culture of the Inland Tlingit First Nation and hear their stories about their history in the Yukon. We will then head back to Whitehorse, north on the Alaska Highway. You won’t see the same view twice on this interesting and scenic loop! Along the way back to Whitehorse, you will see Marsh Lake…the Yukon version of ‘Cottage Country’.

What do I need to bring?
Dress for the weather (rain or shine we will go), camera, sturdy footwear (uneven gravel, sand & dirt in places), daypack with your own water.

What is the difference between this tour and the Carcross/Southern Lakes tour?
This is a day tour that adds 2 other communities and more stops along the way. The Carcross/SL tour is a half day that only goes to the one community.

What kind of culture will we experience?
We will be visiting the traditional territory of Carcross Tagish First Nations and Teslin Tlingit people. Learn about the clan system, traditional arts and crafts, and meet & visit with First Nation people while visiting the Heritage Centre. Depending on the day – there are different things happening.

How long of a drive?
We will be covering about a 260km heritage loop around the southern lakes region. The drive, plus all of our stops, will take a full 8hr day.
